We’re a digital publisher working closely with Lisa Mason and her backlist with plans to expand her backlist into print again. We’re proud to ride the exciting new wave of the ebook revolution and to bring Lisa Mason's previously published works to a new audience. Since January 2010, ebook sales have expanded by 200 percent, whereas bookstore sales have declined by 4 percent.
Don’t get us wrong—we love brick-and-mortar bookstores. Some of our staff have worked many years in bookstores. And we love hold-in-your-hand print books. We collect print books—20,000 of them. A beautifully published book with great characters, a moving story, and a fabulous cover is a work of art.
But the new ereaders are taking the pleasures of book reading to a new high-tech level. People who need books and newspapers when they travel for business, go on vacation, or go out to a café are quickly finding ereaders indispensable.
Bast Books has made a commitment to Amazon.com’s Kindle and Barnes and Noble’s Nook because the vast majority of people who read ebooks own those devices. We like the service those two sites provide, the wide range of apps for PCs and mobiles, the security, and the ease of use.
Since Kindle doesn’t yet offer color and Nook’s color has yet to be perfected, we found that downloading an ebook with no cover art or a muddy black-and-white version of a color cover wasn’t satisfactory. So we produced a black-and-white cover for the inside of your ebook, then added color for the book’s product page on the Amazon and Barnes and Noble web sites.
